Hello Monday!

Here at SirLady Records we actually LOVE Mondays…..because we get to talk about our first love, Music.

We heart Radio.  There is nothing better than good radio and nothing worse than bad radio.  Another lucky reason to call Woodstock home, is our hometown radio station WDST. We could write about all the great DJs and programming every Monday until the end of the year.

As the promo commercial says  ”Sundays are special at WDST”, indeed.  Sunday nights from 6:00-8:00PM Radio Unleashed with Dave Leonard (you don’t have to live here to listen, all shows are available on the web or on-demand) is very special.

Leonard prides himself on playing really good music, that is his only agenda.  The more obscure the better, but he does throw in some commercially successful songs too for good measure.  If your sick of all the same old tunage on your ipod – this is the show for you!  You’ll be delighted by favorites that you’ve somehow forgotten about and happy to learn about some rad band that is big in Uganda.

Leonard has been doing this for three decades and his musical repertroie is evidence of his commitment and loyalty to good tunes. So it comes as no surprise that Dave digs up bands and spins their songs before they become bold names.  Case in point, about six months ago when listening to the show he had a demo from this band from Detroit, Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr. He picked a track called “Simple Girl” as his “Best In Show”, the song of the week.  Well just recently these guys went from recording psychedelic indie pop demos in their basement in Michigan to their debut album “Its a Corporate World”  being touted as best new bands by a slew of media:SPIN, NPR, Stereogum…..But Leonard said it first!

Take a look at a recent set list from “Unleashed”, it is as diverse as the General Assembly at the UN:

David Philp – An Irish Blessing
Them – It’s All Over Now Baby Blue
Ben Harper – Walk Away
Blitzen Trapper – Love The Way You Walk Away
Laura Marling – Ghosts
Ingrid Michelson – Be OK
Sonic New York – Dreamland
Sallie Ford & The Sound Outside – I Swear
Clyde McPhatter – Little Bitty Pretty One
Ike and Tina Turner – Nut Bush City Limits
Those Darlins – 222
Chris Isaak – Live It Up
Mother Fletcher – Telephone
Simon and Garfunkel – Patterns
Bela Fleck – Throw Down Your Heart
Danny Barnes – Pizza Box
Harry Nilsson – Me and My Arrow
Armor Hot Dog Kids – Commercial
Five Chinese Brothers – She’s A Waitress
Eilen Jewel – Warning Signs
Rachel Yamagata – Starlight
The Decemberists – Calamity Song
R.E.M. – Carnival Of Sorts (Boxcars)
Josh Ritter – Change Of Time
Peggy Lee – Fever
Robert Gordon – Fire
Tori Amos – Carry
Citizen Cope – Fame
Davis Essex – Rock On

Leonard’s day job is his uber-successful DJ Company, JTD Productions.  We know all too well that a party is make or break by the music.  So you just imagine, if you got Dave Leonard spinning at your wedding/party it will be epic!
