Editors “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors”

We’re taking another trip across the pond this week for our Song of the Week. With an enrapturingly dark indie/rock sound  “Smokers Outside the Hospital Doors” by Editors is our Song of the Week over here are Radio Unleahed.

Dark Indie Music

That’s really the best way to describe this song. It sounds indie, sildenafil like the song is wearing an old flannel with an ironic mustache*. But you walk away from the song feeling uncomfortable, not quite in a panic just unsettled. Watching the video for this song only reinforces that feeling.

Don’t let that turn you off though, it’s a damn good song. There is some serious talent here. Everything is musically tight, and I can just picture these guys tearing it up on a nice stage when I close my eyes. How an indie music fan like myself went this long not knowing about these guys is criminal.

Editors the Wiki

These boys are from jolly old England, Birmingham specifically. Since 2002 they’ve been rocking unleashing their brand of Indie rock on the world. They all met while attending university and decided to trade in the textbooks for guitars.

They started getting buzz around some of their songs on BBC’s Radio 1’s Onemusic Unsigned. Then in 2004 they were signed to the indie label Kitchenware Records.

Since then Editors have released three albums, two of which went platinum. Their latest album In This Light and On This Evening was released in 2009. So clearly these very talented dudes need to get their act together and release a new album.

Lyrics

Pull the blindfold down
So your eyes can’t see
Now run as fast as you can
Through this field of trees

Say goodbye to everyone you have ever known
You are not gonna see them ever again
I can’t shake this feeling I’ve got
My dirty hands
Have I been in the wars?
The saddest thing that I’d ever seen
Were smokers outside the hospital doors

Someone turn me around
Can I start this again?

How can we wear our smiles
With our mouths wide shut
‘Cause you stopped us from singing

I can’t shake this feeling I’ve got
My dirty hands
Have I been in the wars?
The saddest thing that I’d ever seen
Were smokers outside the hospital doors

Someone turn me around
Can I start this again?
Now someone turn us around
Can we start this again?

We’ve all been changed from what we were
Our broken hearts left smashed on the floor
I can’t believe you if I can’t hear you
I can’t believe you if I can’t hear you

We’ve all been changed from what we were
Our broken hearts smashed on the floor
We’ve all been changed from what we were
Our broken hearts smashed on the floor

Someone turn me around
Can I start this again?
Now someone turn us around
Can we start this again?
