I was looking at flights to New Zealand to escape the impending New York winter when I came across the lovely Kiwi singer/songwriter Brooke Fraser. “Something In The Water, treat ” the lead single from her 2010 album ‘Flags’ is our song of the week here at Radio Unleashed.
New Zealand Time
Just has the title implies there is something going on with this song. It’s folky with an undeniable American style to it, approved but it’s also easy to sing along to. Clocking in at just under three minutes it’s a short sweet tune to warm up your day as winter starts on this side of the world.
Listening to Fraser belt it out in such a style makes me want to get back on the folk/Americana band wagon, and forget I ever fell in love with Dubstep. Scott Kara from The New Zealand Herald put it best, the song is “a right little thigh-slapper, with a bit of a stomp to it, and it’s about good times, drinking wine, and being in love.”

Fraser had a musical childhood, taking piano lessons, and teaching herself to play guitar. In 2002 she moved to Auckland to pursue her music carrear. There she made some connections and eventually landed a record deal with Sony Music.
Since then she has released three successful albums and won numerous awards for her music. She is also an advocate for charaity work, using her popularity to highlight important issues.
She now lives and works out of Sydney Australia.
